Riflessioni sulla sperimentazione di una tecnica
La sperimentazione sulle cianotipie ha acceso il mio interesse non tanto per l’aspetto chimico fisico e artigianale, in sé piuttosto elementare, quanto per l’estrema versatilità nell’applicazione su supporti differenti.
Ho esplorato i limiti di questa tecnica su materiali diversi, dalle carte da disegno e di riso fino a quelle colorate e ai tessuti, spaziando tra soggetti che vanno dal paesaggio (diurno e notturno) alla figura , cercando un dialogo costante tra la materia del supporto e il contenuto dell’immagine.
Tuttavia, pur avendo un’intrinseca predilezione per il blu, ho riscontrato come il digitale riesca oggi a restituire una sensazione visiva e concettuale analoga, sebbene con evidenti limiti nella scelta dei supporti fisici. Per questo motivo ho scelto a un certo punto di accantonare questo percorso, che desidero presentare qui più per il suo valore di pura sperimentazione, che è una mia nota caratteristica, che per l’aspetto puramente compositivo.
Reflections on experimenting with a technique
Experimenting with cyanotypes sparked my interest not so much for the chemical, physical, and artisanal aspect which is rather elementary in itself as for its extreme versatility when applied to different bases.
I explored the boundaries of this technique on diverse materials, from drawing and rice papers to colored papers and fabrics, ranging across subjects from landscapes (both day and night) to figures, seeking a constant dialogue between the texture of the base and the content of the image.
However, despite an intrinsic preference for blue, I have found that digital photography can now convey a similar visual and conceptual sensation, albeit with obvious limitations regarding the choice of physical mediums. For this reason, I chose at a certain point to shelf this journey, which I wish to present here more for its value as pure experimentation, a defining characteristic of mine, than for its purely compositional aspect.
